Once again, we've found some extraordinary picture books for you to check out that we think will delight any young child.

MONKEY with A TOOLBELT

Written and illustrated by Chris Monroe, Carolrhoda Books, 2008

While Chico Bon Bon fixes and builds almost anything with his trusty tool belt, little readers can learn the names of tools and what they do.  A super choice for little boys.

Picture books remain a favorite with us, even as grownups.  So, we are happy to announce some of our new favorites for 2009.  We choose books for many reasons.  Sometimes it's the art and at other times it's the simplicity of the story, but, for one reason or another, it speaks to us and the kids in the age group for which it was intended.

Bobo and the New Neighbor

by Gail Page  (Bloomsbury, Ages 4-8)     This endearing book is about Bobo the dog, who tries very hard to be a good dog.  It's just that he does have some problems controlling himself in certain situations.  Kids will laugh at Bobo's antics as he tries to redeem himself.  A fun book.

Lilly's Chocolate Heart
by Kevin Henkes

This is a boardbook, best suited for the preschool crowd.  Lilly has one red, foil-wrapped chocolate heart and she is trying to find the perfect hiding place.  Guess where that is?

Roses are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink
by Diane De Groat

Gilbert writes nice little verses on the Valentines he is giving to his friends ... and some not-so-nice verses to f few that have hurt his feelings.  A cute story with a cute ending.  For kids 4-8.

Snuggle Puppy
by Sandra Boynton

This is a year-round type of book that's perfect for a bedtime story.  Boardbook for preschoolers.
